Hello World

I am a person who likes to have things neat and tidy. Correction, I need things to be neat and tidy. I am organized, structured and follow a routine pretty much every day. I have always been like this; my childhood room was clean and I loved to have an organized backpack and desk at school. I have three kids- a daughter who is 23, and boys who are 19 and 17. These skills were necessary while raising three kids with a husband who was in school/training for a long time and could not assist with the day to day mundane tasks that plague every mom. I thrived on making sure there was a place for everything, and everything in its place. Thanks Dad!

But now, with the kids either moving out or spending more time away, the house is actually too clean. I am finding myself either tidying up rooms that are already tidy or cleaning bathrooms that don’t even need it.

This leads me to why I am even writing this blog. I honestly believed that my happiness was dependent on how organized I was. Really. I know- it’s kind of messed up. (Ha Ha- see what I did there?)

So now I’m asking myself, what is going to make me happy? What is my purpose and where do I fit in? My children don’t need me as much anymore because they are becoming adults and trying to figure things out on their own. Yay! My husband has a full time job and his passion is triathlons, which takes up a lot of his free time. I mean - A LOT. Maybe too much? But that’s ok because it is forcing me to reexamine and reevaluate my own life. Who am I? What do I want to do? How can I make a difference? How can I have fun? Why am I here? Ok, the last one is a little deep, but you get the point. I am on a journey, and I hope you will come along.

I have a lot of ideas about what I want to get out of this blog, and what I want you to get out of it. Some days I may write about an awesome book or my favorite podcast or a show I am binging. I tend to get excited about things and then overshare. I can’t help it. Other days I may write about something personal going on in my life now, or a funny story from way back when. I hope to highlight amazing things happening in my hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia and people I meet this year who have an impact on me. I also want this to be a place where I can talk about the not so great stuff happening too- that’s just how life is and if I share the hard stuff, maybe we can get through the tough times together.
